Reflecting on Innovations and Challenges in Primary Care

Last week we had the honor of welcoming Dr. Shane Reti MP. This experience was a valuable opportunity to delve into the key issues, challenges, and opportunities that shape the landscape of primary care.

Our discussions centered around innovative approaches to patient care, highlighting the cutting-edge solutions that continue to redefine healthcare at Newtown Medical Centre.

One particularly exciting innovation discussed during the visit was our implementation of an extended care paramedic to pre-assess individuals with acute conditions. Another noteworthy aspect we explored was the overwhelming popularity of our after-hours GP telehealth service, Practice Plus. This service has proven to be a game-changer, offering our patients convenient access to healthcare professionals beyond regular clinic hours. The success of Practice Plus underscores Newtown Medical Centre’s commitment to embracing technology and adapting to the evolving needs of our community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shane Reti MP for joining us during this visit and contributing valuable insights. Additionally, we express our appreciation to Tū Ora Compass Health PHO Deputy Chief Executive, Mabli Jones and Martin Hefford of Te Whatu Ora.

We are excited about the positive impact our commitment to innovation and patient-centered care, with the support of community leaders like Dr. Shane Reti MP, will continue to have on the health and well-being of our community.
