Laboratory Strike Update – What You Need to Know
Awanui Labs has been issued a strike notice by the APEX union, with planned industrial action on Wednesday, 5th February, and Friday, 7th February 2025. This will result in reduced laboratory services on these days, which may affect our patients.
How This Will Impact You
Some Awanui collection centres will be closed – please check www.awanuilabs.co.nz for up-to-date information on closures.
Delays are expected at collection centres that remain open.
Microbiology samples without clinical details may not be processed.
Routine tests without an indication of treatment failure may not be tested if staff capacity is exceeded.
Wairarapa and Hutt Hospital laboratory operations remain unaffected, except for microbiology services.
What You Can Do
If possible, plan ahead and have your tests done before or after the strike to avoid delays.
Be prepared for longer wait times at open collection centres.
